About us

In the late 1990s our founders had a vision of a state of the art manufacturing facility producing tiles in the South West of the UK close to the quarries where some of the best clay in the world is found. They purchased a site that had been occupied by Candy Tiles since the 1860s, and, having leveled it, built the current plant which commenced production in 1999. We manufacture wall tiles under several different brands including Laura Ashley, Wet by Hemingway Design and Candy Tile Company, as well as BCT branded and own brand designs exclusively for Homebase, Focus and Topps Tiles amongst others.

Our range is manufactured to stringent quality standards, which surpass the latest British and European regulations EN14411. The honeycomb back of the tile was specially developed to allow greater adhesion, and the tile corners are recessed slightly underneath for easier fixing. Our tiles are modular metric — this means that we have included the grout gap, so that our equivalent of a 20 x 25 tile actually measures 19.8 x 24.8cm. This makes it easy to calculate how many tiles you will need as 20 of the 20 x 25 tiles will fit into 1sqm when grouted.

Sourced products also meet these standards and all deliveries into our warehouse are inspected for quality before being despatched to our customers.

We strive to minimise our impact on the environment: sourcing as many as possible of our raw materials locally cuts down on transport miles. We recycle as much water as we possibly can and make full use of rainwater collection. Our energy needs are significant but the plant is designed to minimise this as much as possible and we are aiming to cut energy use by 10% over the next 10 years in line with DETR targets. We also crush and recycle waste tiles back into the clay. Where possible we use recycled card for packaging and recycle any waste card locally.
